Allis Gremlin Hyjinks

I got the old tractor bug and joined the Army at about the same time. My first duty station was in Huntsville AL, this is where I found my first tractor. It was a running 47 Farmall B. After driving my B my wife got the bug also. Before we could find her a project I was transfered to Colorado Springs CO. As I didnt have any other way of taking the tractor with me I putit inside a 24' rider van with my car and all our worldly belongings.

Soon after we got to CO we happened upon a huge farm auction while out to see the royal gorge. Didnt expect to buy a tractor that day but yall know how that happens. Her tractor is a 47 Allis C. It didnt run when we got it and hadnt for quite some time. About a week after we got it home I happened to have a few hours to myself to play with this new toy of ours. I put some wires on the mag and a gallon in the tank. Tha starter was locked up and I didnt have a crank for her. So I tied her to my 73 Gremlin put her in 3rd gear and slowly started to pull her accros the field. Just as soon as the engine turned over that Allis fired right up and took off full steam across the pasture for the wire fence and a herd of cattle! She hadnt been fired up in probably 10 years! I couldnt get out of the gremlin fast enough. I ran so fast after the Allis my heels hit me in the butt! I caught her right before she ran down the fence and managed to get her stopped. But before I could catch my breath I look over to the car and its rolling down hill with the drivers door still wide open! And Im off agian! At least the car wasnt in gear and CO doesnt have any trees on the plains.

I wish someone had been there with a video camera to capture all that. How often do you see a runaway tractor chasing a green gremlin across a field? We would have won that Americas funniest(stupidest) home videos. I didnt tell anyone about it for a week, still laugh thinkin about it. All that just to see if the engine would turn over. Both tractors have since made it back home to TX agian in the back of a rider with all our things. Our three yr old loves ridin with daddy on the twacter. Still have the little Gremlin too.
