Pulling the Bull

I grew up and still live on the farm of my great grandfather which was handed down through the family to me. The first tractor ever owned by us on the place was the Ford 8N bought by my father in 1950, which I still have and use. I was eight years old when we got it. My father raised Herford cattle, among other things. He had a big bull named Joe. Although Joe was gentle enough to pet, he hadn't been taught to be led. When I was about ten or eleven, Joe decided to go visit the neighbors in the small town nearby. Pretty soon someone called mother and said Joe was in their yard enjoying the flowers. Daddy was gone at the time so it fell to me to get Joe back. I took the 8N and a big grass rope daddy had and drove to town. When I found Joe, I just drove up to him and dropped the rope over his horns. With the other end tied to the back of the tractor, I slowly in first gear taught Joe how to be led.
