My Grandfathers Tractor | My grandfather was a dairy farmer in Michigan. He raised registered Holstiens and until May, 1941, he farmed with horses. In that year, he bought a new John Deere model 'H' tractor. He is supposed to have paid 900 or so for it. He must have had it delivered on a Saturday afternoon, because he parked it in the barn. The next day was a Sunday, and the family went to some sort of picnic. During the afternoon some very bad weather showed up. Mother recalls trying to get home in a driving rain. Upon returning, It was noticed right away that there was something missing. . . the barn! A 'cyclone' had taken the barn and dropped it neatly on the brand new, no hours, never run tractor. They had to use the team to get the barn beams off of the tractor. The damage? The muffler was snashed. The tractor is long since gone. I have no idea even what it's serial number was, but it is an interesting thing to wonder about. The tractor did a number of years service until Grandfather passed away. The front end center pin bushing was worn also so I ask that they replace it if they had time. Well, that’s wha
