A Two Man Job | Back in 1957 my dad bought a farm in the north woods not far from Deerwwod Minnesota. The purchase included land, buildings, livestock and an Allis Chalmers model B along with a bunch of implements. Well, somehow when we arrived we discovered that the implements were all of the horse drawn variety. There was no money for a further capitol investment, so I, at eight years old got to ride on the old equipment behind me dad who was driving the AC. I opperated the old mower, lifting the sickle bar when I needed to. But the most challenging job was operating the old dump rake and raking the hay into srtaight rows for Mr Kephart and his son to pick up with their baler. We made enough hay that summer to keep our 24 cows and even had a little left over inthe spring. I sure miss that old AC and that old farm.
