Starting Early.......

I was the first grandchild and when I was 3yrs old (believe it or not) I went with my grandfather to the upper end of his place to pull the graindrill back. My gp had a 530 Case with the tandom on it up there too and he wanted to get it to the house as well. So, after instructing me to pull the choke out to stop the tractor and park it under the big oak next to the garden, in low range first gear at an idle I was off and driving on my own!!! Even thoug a snail could have passed me and my gp could run up and stop me I was somebody. Anyway with my grandfather close behind I went around the field, through the gate by the barn and to the big the big Oak just PERFICT!! Lowered the plow and pulled the choke. When the case caughed its last compression I was off and running for the house. My mother and grandmother were fixing dinner and I ran in yelling 'I DROVE THE TRACTOR ALL BY MYSELF!!!!!!!!!' They met my grandpa at the door and went out side. Only two things I know for sure....... 1) I still love driving my tractors more than anything to this day. and 2) I did not go solo again untill I was 8 or 9. This is my first memory as a child and one of my grandfathers favorite stories to this day. Its funny my Grandfather always stops the story after I inform mom and grandma and says 'well things just did not go well from there............'
