I hope your friend is sort of handy..Kinda sounds like the tractor needs to be split and power reverser repaired..There's lots of neat stuff in there..once the torque converter comes out, there is a fitting on the side with a sender unit on it..It has to be removed in order to pull it apart further..I've seen some folks fight with it for a long time till they finally "got" it...
