We branded about 650 head Saturday morning. Sunday afternoon we went and helped a neighbor do about 500 or so.
Here in north central Nebraska the calves are roped by riders on horseback and drug out of a pen to teams of wrestlers. Usually 4 or 5 ropers and 6 or 8 teams of wrestlers at the average branding. The calves are branded, vaccinated, and sometimes dehorned and castrated(if applicable) in about 45 seconds. No salve or anything is put on the brand unless it is burned clear though the hide, which is rare.
I'll have to see if I can find any pics. I know there's a website that has some if I can find the link I'll post it.
