You don"t really give enough info for any real advise. Do you get paid to "mow" and what are you mowing, just grass or mowing a hay field? If it"s just something you"ve been doing for pay or whatever and your now having to do it on someone elses schedule then sounds like you need to be getting paid more, even if you don"t mind doing it, just because of the hassel involved.
If you"ve got a "crop" on the land and money invested in it then you should some kind of something in writing allowing you the right to manage your "crop" when needed, not on somebody elses schedule, after all it"s not their crop. If not then you should have and now are just gonna have to suffer for not having anything in writing.
You don"t say how much has to be "weeded" by hand now but sounds to me like you just need to cut your losses and let the "Chief" in charge do it himself...
