9N vs. 2N - no material differences other than serial numbers. 9N/2N vs. 8N - 9N/2N left and right brakes on opposite sides ; 8N on same side - 9N/2N tranny 3speed + reverse ; 8N tranny 4 speed + reverse - 9N/2N no way to mount swing drawbar under diffy ; 8N has 4 bolts for mounting - 9N/2/N draft control only ; 8N draft and position control (biggest operational difference) - Lots of other minor differences 8N more useful beyond just plowing due to position control (can be added to 9N/2N for $80).
