Dad never went, he was farming. Grew alot of hemp for the war effort back then. Lots of old steam engines were lost to WWII. Had 2 uncles go, one was on a landing craft on the shores of Europe, never talked about till the day he died, just said he had to do his job. Mom said he was pretty shook for a few years after. The other uncle was in Germany, not alot said about it either. I joined after school in the late 70's, when the draft had just ended, did my time, was in a hostile area for awhile, then I was done. It was my duty as an american to serve
