I can't answer this for sure, but I believe the paper filters are better and easier to maintain. You just replace the paper filter. With the oil bath you're supposed to clean them out every 50 to 100 operating hours and it's a messy job that most folks didn't do. If you don't believe that, just buy one of those old machines with an oil bath and nine times out of ten, the oil bath filter was not maintained. I think the disposable air filter assembly is cheaper to make also (less parts). That's my opinion for what it's worth.
