Just wanted to say a quick thanks to those who responded to my query about the oil on my JD R's hood. I've only recently become acquainted with diesels on the farm so I hadn't even entertained the idea that the oil could have been a biproduct of the tractor running at idle for an extended period of time. Turns out that this was the case. A little time at full throttle and the R was chuggin with no more exhaust stack slobbering. I appreciate the replies.
