Pump Hyd Line

My JD has a 3/4 in. steel line from the main pump to the center of the tractor. It is about 7 ft. long. Previous owner has brazed this in several places. I know it woulnt be long before it cracks gain. JD wants 108.00 plus shipping. a rubber hi pressure rubber hose cost about 45.00. Will this rubber hose work ok? Why did they use steel line?
