Needed an 11.00 X 16 tri-rib tire for an older not often used tractor. Bought a very good Armstrong 8 ply tire for 150 dollars including the rim. New tire with tube and changing fee would have been approaching 400 dollars. Took a hard look at my old fertilizer spreader in advance of this season and saw all kinds of rot setting in. New spinner, fins, shaft, yokes & U joints would have been 500 dollars and I still would have had a rotted spreader. Older Willmar spreader but in very good condition was a late consignment to today's sale and I bought it for 1,700 dollars. A newer Willmar but with much crude repair work brought short of 4,000 dollars. In some ways I don't like owning a spreader but it can be nearly impossible to get one when the conditions are good from the local fertilizer dealer. Also, if I need to wait on a wet area in the field I don't have the fertilizer dealer calling about when I might be done and usually they are not in the best of moods.
