The front of the barn had 4 horse stalls. We used those for calves. We milked about 60 head. We took some cows out of producing milk before they dropped a new born. Many times I had to drag a new calf into the barn before I caught a school bus. My job was taking care of the calves.
Dad added a milk processing building where we pasteurized, homogenized, bottled, sold milk and delivered milk. All a family operation.
I went to college in 1967. If my memory is correct, the barn burnt when I was a freshman. Dad sold off the cows before the fire.
The Pic was taken my Jim Schilling long before the barn became a dairy barn.
Jim Schilling was a very interesting man. He was a Purdue grad, farmed many acres and had heavy equipment.
Jim had his eye on this property long before dad bought it.
After the barn burnt, Dad sold Jim the farm land, kept the place where he built a house.
