I have a dozen Deere tractors and my best starter is an old 3010 with several thousand hours on it.It can always be depended on to start without ether or plugging it in. My 4230 also starts well but we did a complete overhaul and it has less than 500 hours on it. The secret to making a Deere start is the head, the valves have to be done correctly. I have a friend who is very good at machine work and he does my Deere heads and they always start. Years ago dad overhauled a 2510 for a neighbor who took the head to an auto parts place (his grandson worked there)and they ground the valves that tractor would not start without ether when the temp was less than 50 degrees.I also like good batteries and big cables to carry the current.I do try to plug my tractors in but sometimes you need one that is not so I will use a small shot of ether sprayed in the air cleaner.
