I don't think succession will actually occur, the groundwork laid in 1860 indicates it's not possible. The entire rationale for the war was that it was not possible for a state to leave the Union. But on the other hand the creation of West Virginia also established some interesting legal precedents. When Abraham Lincoln was elected it was probably more devastating to the union than Barry getting re-elected. If our country did split we would still have trade between the new Countries and the old ones. New Countries might even adopt the NAFTA. The threat of succession and the process will maybe cause the left to have to slow down and actually work with their opposition as compared to the steamroller techniques used to pass things like healthcare. It might also force the Supreme Court to move from the activist role back to the role of reading and enforcing the constitution. If it does occur it would be interesting to see what states or areas grow and prosper and what ones don't. Could see all the wealth pouring out of the Blue states to the red where they might be allowed to keep it.
