Yes it will. The computer is programed so that all sensors have to be working right. In the case of the O2 sensor it goes into default which gives it a rich mixture because it "reads" too lean. It can cause ruff idle because it's getting to much gas and is flooding. It can also really effect the gas mileage. My SIL didn't understand that and figured he couldn't afford to replace his and would just live with the running problems and the "check engine" light. It was costing him about 6 MPG on his Ford truck. Don't take a lot of driving to pay for that in the cost of gas. O2 sensors are pretty easy to change (mat require a sensor socket). They have to be install with anti seize on the threads!!!!!.
That is the big problem with VW here.....90 miles to the dealer.
