The tractor is either an 1801 or 4040. Though both models are basically the same tractor. Serial number is stamped into the bell housing just above and behind the starter. Trouble with diesels on those models is the battery usually leaked down onto that spot and ate away the number. One clue you could look for is the color of the paint on the chassis. From the factory the 1801 would have been Red chassis with yellow tin. 4040 would have been Blue with yellow tin. If you really want to get into some deciphering with the date codes etc ask on the Ford board. Those guys know all that stuff over there.
