The can of Berryman's that I bought will not even wrinkle the paint on a carburetor let alone dissolve the varnish on the inside, and it makes no difference if you leave the carb soaking in it for 3 hours or 3 days. And for what it's worth, the Berryman's does not even smell like carb cleaner. If you think Berryman's has a bad odor, you should get a whiff of the GOOD stuff.
