Not sure about the 850, can't find a spec sheet. As John T recommended, go to wiringharness.com and hit the parts catalog. Page 7 shows the IH basics and page 34 shows the regulator selection in a plain manner. 6v or 12v, curved or straight mount, cutout or regulated. The 6v units are listed as positive ground and should bolt right up. I'm guessing that you probably want the curved mount to go on the generator.
If you want to keep your switch original, get a cutout unit. Otherwise get a regulated one and move the generator field wire from the main switch to the regulator F terminal.
Prices listed are very reasonable.
By the way, all units have cutout. It disconnects the battery when the genny stops putting out. This is required for all generators or else they will discharge the battery rather quickly.
The regulator type also has a F terminal to automatically feed the field input on the generator. This means you don't have to do it your self via the switch. If you only have the cutout, you must operate the switch to charge your battery.
