Toby, at $2500.00, it should run well. Not just run, but run well with no problems. It should be able to start on gas and switch properly to diesel. Anything less and you have an expensive engine restoration. The tin doesnt have to be shiney, but not all bent up or cut up either, and all components such as lights should be intact if not working. Fenders and battery boxes and covers are a plus, but not critical for this price. Good luck. The MD is a great tractor, but can be a real drain to the pocketbook if the engine is not strong.
