The seat on my 51 H is in need of a rebuild. I plan on replacing the spring, shock/bushings, and pivot bushing pin. All this stuff is going to cost approx $75 plus shipping from OEM. The thing is, I do a fair amount of brush cutting with the tractor, and I have (from reading lots of other posts) developed a bit of paranoia about falling backwards of the tractor and being run over by the mower. So I would kind of like to have a different style seat that is more substantial. I about buying a more modern replacement seat assembly that has a back on it etc., but it doesn't seem like it would mount back far enough from the steering wheel. Has anyone else (I know this is blasphemous) modified their Farmall (C, H, M) with a more modern seat. I use the tractor, not a show piece. I use to brush hog, plow snow, pull plow & harrow for large garden and to haul wood, etc. I honestly am not overly concerned with keeping the seat original, but do not want to weld anything onto the tractor, etc so that I could bolt the OEM seat back on for shows if I wanted to at a later date. Thanks Brian in NY
