I am getting ready to pull both rear axles on my '50 C next week. I replaced the gasket on the left side 2 years ago and listened to my mechanic brother who said to put some silicon on the gasket. Wrong move. It started leaking again within a couple of months. You need to remove the PTO housing to get at the cap on the inside end of the axle. This holds the bull gear to the axle. There are two fine threaded bolts holding the cap on. I learned after the fact that the easiest way to remove the bolts is to jack up the rear wheel. Put a wrench on the bolt and spin the rear wheel in the direction to remove the bolts. I did this the hard way last time. It was too hard to turn the bolts with my fingers but too easy for the rachet to work. I ended up using a box end wrench turning it 1/6 turn at a time. The hole from the PTO to the rearend housing isn't very large so you are not able to get your arm in there very far. Hopefully it works by spinning the wheel. Will let you know in a couple of weeks when I get back from vacation (working on the C's).
