Jim, Some people (often including myself) also advise to dead ground the gennys field post when polarizing to insure its well grounded in case the VR isnt or the VR's field control circuit is open. Thats probaly a good idea cuz due to the armature being grounded youre still gonna get that polarizing spark causing some to believe "hey I got the spark so she must be polarized" !!!!!!! The short answer is still just touch BAT to GEN/ARM on the VR which almost always works. Love tricity chat Take care Jim John T
