Farmall A Starter Problem?

I have a 1941 Farmall A with what I think has a charged battery( 4 balls float in a tester) but when I attempt to use the starter, it makes a very weak groan- only once. All wiring is clean and good, battery posts are clean and cables and terminals are tight. Should I yank the starter and have it bench checked or is there something else I could take a look at?
