Getting Those Old Tractors Home
I would be interested in hearing anyone's experiences getting these old tractors out of their hiding spots and home! I don't know about you all, but we have had some experiences (hair raising to say the least)! Do these people plant these tractors in the most out of the way, hardest to get to spots, they possibly can to avoid theft, vandalism, or the like? Or, is it just a cruel irony that the tractors we want most are the hardest to get?

As you all know I got the L at last after three years of waiting! Well, when my husband said we needed to bring our 850 with us to get this tractor thought he was nuts. Why bring such a large tractor, for such a small tractor? I figured we might be able to just roll it onto the trailer.

Well, when we got there it was parked in this small shed at the bottom of this enormous hill behind the main house! We had to park the trailer and truck at the firehouse two blocks away on this hair pin turn in the road with cars whizzing by at 50 mph as there was no real driveway, and the owner did not want his lawn ruined.

We get the 850 there, and down the hill, we have a straight pole we use to hook the tractors together, and you can only hook most old tractors from behind, so I end up steering the old tractor backwards while hubby goes forward pulling me. You can imagine our trip up that hill, with the L having two flat tires, and Richard forgot the pump. . . . . going up that hill (have to go sideways for awhile to get to the spot where we can climb straight up) the front left tire comes up and I figure it is just about all over for me!! What a sensation!!! Who needs roller coasters anyway?

After passing that hurdle we have to drive back down this steep driveway with me steering going backwards and trying to stay straight! Staying straight so I don't end up along side of him was just about impossible, it is not like I practice this every day!!! After a bit of shouting, and panic attacks, we finally are ready to go out into traffic. He did not want to go too slow, and I had to keep straight or I would be history on this turn with those cars flying by! I was never so glad to get that tractor to the firehouse! We pushed it up on the trailer and away we went, after about an hour I recovered enough (and stopped shaking) to look forward to that next find!
