550 PTO adjustment

I need to hold my PTO lever towards the back to keep the PTO running.

I can feel a little snap but it only takes about 2 pounds of pull to feel the snap. The manual says it should be around 40 pounds.

Which way would I have to turn the adjusting nut??

Push in on the spring loaded pin that you see right in front, then turn the ring. I like to have somebody else
there to engage and disengage it while I'm under it so I can make sure I haven't gone too far.

Will turning it clockwise tighten it up?

I was thinking of slipping a thin piece of sheet metal under the adjustment ring to keep the pin depressed when turning it.

(Never mind, just found it in the manual, clockwise tightens it up. )

It looks like your not engaged in the 2nd
picture. It's actually adjusted too tight if it
won't break over as it's adjusted now. The dogs
on the bearing carrier will touch the adjusting
nut when it's adjusted properly. You have a good
idea about putting a piece of metal under the
nut to hold the spring down. I use a short piece
of banding strap to hols it down. HTH, Kent

That's why I like to lay under them and have somebody work the lever while I can see it Kent. It's easy to go too tight, then just like you said, they don't snap over and engage all the way.

Yes. I ll try to loosen it up now.

Here s a vid of how it sits now.
I’ll work on loosening it up tonight

Could broken clutches cause this problem??
