A follow 1850 hydraulic question

Finally got it apart after heating it and using a 6 foot extension to my breaker bar. When it came loose it snapped the socket off the end but it was really loose. My question deals with a what appears to be a rubber gasket partially blocking the center hole back to the hydraulics. It was sitting on the side of the port and somewhat elongated. It was not round. When I took the filter out it was sitting there spoon shaped sticking out. I didn't find a rubber gasket in the new Agco filter and didn't think it should be there. Was there such a gasket? The hydaulics work faster and are more responsive since I removed the rubber gasket. I suspect it was partially blocking the port.

Does the old filter that you removed still have the flat rubber gasket that's glued on one end of the filter? I've had two different occasions where that gasket came off in pieces and ended up floating around in the hydraulic system. One time it caused off and on loss of power steering, and the other time it jammed the flow divider. Maybe your gasket came off in one piece. Just a thought.

Yes it appears to have remained intact. The odd issue was there was no gasket attached to the new Agco filter I installed. Was there supposed to be?

All of the Agco filters for the hydraulics that I've used in the past have had that gasket on on the end. I haven't bought one in several years so that might have changed. Due to the problems I've had, I've often wondered if that gasket was really necessary. Maybe word got back and they dropped the gasket.
