2-70 clutch

Think I posted a while back about clutch not releasing on 2-70. Finally got round to yanking, and found one adjuster for clutch finger broke off. This was a new clutch that only put 175 hours on so unless I did something wrong must have been faulty? My question is how many check the fingers on a new pressure plate for axial runout? I am thinking that there may have been more load on the one finger that adjuster broke on? I asked supplier and they said it should be set from factory, but I think I should have stuck a dial on? I ordered the diaphragm style this time, which I guess is supposed to be a better set up?? Also what are opinions on flywheel face should I get it ground?

From the looks of the flywheel, I would not do anything to it. If you decide it needs to be resurfaced, make sure you tell the machine shop what the lip is supposed to measure/

Tom,
I went through this problem with a 1655 and a 1650 having broke Rockers and pivot bolts. The fix is the diaphragm clutch cover. Mine came from North American Clutch and Driveline.

7/16 but with that screwdriver slice in there not much of a cross section. Have another one out of a different 2-70 that is 3/8 . I am pretty sure it is an aftermarket unit as well. I think I will stick with Diaphragm type release fingers from here on. Am now wondering if throw out bearing needs to be different for diaphragm?

I dont have an answer to your problem, but I installed a diaphragm clutch in a 1755 a year ago and it has never been right. Had the flywheel ground, correct measurements, checked when I got it back and all good. The clutch was installed correctly per the instructions and when it was back in the frame, it wouldnt release. I ended up putting the shims back in with the correct flywheel grind to just make it work. Ill have to get them back out more than likely when the clutch wears in a little more.

I put a clutch in my 2-70 last summer and went with a normal one from a clutch shop after my diaphragm experience. I dont intend to do the diaphragm again.

Just my experience.

thanks for the input. Maybe I should reconsider. Did you have to use a different throw out bearing with the diaphragm pressure plate?

I bought the whole kit from HyCapacity for the 1755. It had the pilot and throw out bearing included. It did not look different than the one that came out of it with the standard clutch cover.
