1650 gas tank heater

I'm wanting to add a tank heater to my
1650. It looks like I could put it inline
with the hydrapower heat exchanger lines;
is that a normal spot? If so, which is the
inlet and which is the outlet, I went
through the service and parts manuals
trying to figure it out...

Thanks,
J

Do you mean gas tank heater or engine heater. The heated water from a coolant heater will raise so the heater needs to be installed so the heated coolant can enter the engine. The best one will be a lower radiator hose heater. Korves Oliver parts and others have them.

Yes I see my subject line is a bit confusing. I'm talking a coolant tank heater. There isn't allot of room for a lower and I have had good luck with the Kats ones so that's why I asked about those. But easier to install.

Aww jeez I need to stop posting when drunk or before coffee.

The exchanger isn't going to heat the block.

There is not alot of room for a lower, with the cast elbow, so I was looking for alternatives without thinking...

I just replaced the rad and the lower hose is pretty short 6 or 8 inches and it's 2 1/8 to 1 3/4.

I find it easiest to use an exterior magnetic heater and stick it on the oil pan or block when needed. no muss no fuss and you can move it to another tractor when needed.

The largest surfaces that cause an engine to turn slowly in the winter is the cylinder walls. All six of them at the same time. An oil pan heater does very littel to warm up the cylinder walls. Heating up the coolant which surrounds the cylinders is most effective. A lower hose heater does not install in in the short hose you are talking about. It installs in the casting that hose is connected to. The one that leads up to the water pump. On a couple of our 1850 gas tractors we have tank heaters installed. The heater needs to be installed in a somewhat uprite position. On the right side of the block is a drain cock. Connect the bottom of the tank heater to that drain cock. The upper hose from the tank heater connects to a tee you will need to install just below the thermostat housing. Make certain the natural tendency of the heated coolant to rise goes into the engine. A 1500 watt thermostatically controlled unit should be just right. It can be left plugged in 24-7.
