Will 1850 pull 4-16's?

It ought to pull it OK. Years ago I farmed Mississippi river bottom gumbo. The neighbors had 4010 and 4020 Deeres with 4-14 and 4-16 plows, ran in 4th gear, some places in 3rd. I had an 1850 diesel and pulled 5-16's in 3rd.

The 1850 should pull 4 X 16's in most soils fairly well. It would be a 5 X 16 tractor around here even though there is a lot of tough soil.

Back in their day most 90-100 HP tractors were sold with 5 bottom plows that worked the tractors hard, especially if a lift harrow was added. You will probably get just as much ground covered pulling 4 bottoms at a faster speed instead of five bottoms at a slow speed. Simply reducing tire slippage from 15 percent to the recommended 10 percent reduces your fuel use by 5 percent. The fifty plus year old tractor will hold up better too.
