59 550 Diesel Voltage Regulator

Greetings - I am wiring a 550 Diesel and the Operators Manual shows a different Generator/saddle-mounted Voltage Regulator diagram than the regulator I thought I correctly purchased. Serial number 79469 should have a VR with B F and L, according to the book, but I have a VR with the 3-terminal Batt F and GEN.
Does the GEN replace the L?
Also, does the A on the Generator need to be grounded with the voltage regulator?
How do I properly wire? Thank you very much for your help, I am having a tough time with the original wiring diagram.

Your regulator with B (Battery) F (Field) and L (Load or Lights) should also have an ARM or GEN terminal underneath. Battery is your battery connection, F to field on generator, ARM to ARM on generator and L supplies power to light switch. Ignition switch may power from L or Bat line

B F GEN same as above, Gen goes to ARM on generator. No Load terminal so switches would wire to a hot battery source

Unless there are reasons to keep it original, if it were mine I would consider an internal regulated alternator conversion. I'm reading a lot of reports of difficulty finding reliable generator regulators.

Thank you! This has brought me a great deal of relief. GEN terminal on the VR connects to A on the generator.

While I have converted to alternators in the past which makes life so easy, this gem has a power steering pump on the back of the generator. I have seen reports of faulty VRs as well no I am crossing my fingers I received a good one.

Thank you again for your help, this was a good box to check.

He stated the reason above- the power steering pump is bolted to (and runs off) the back of the generator.

Stock VR is strapped to the generator, and is in the drip line off the side of the hood. Makes for faster corrosion and failure of the VR if tractor is not in covered storage.
