Soaking Cylinders before starting

I need to move a 770 gas that has been sitting for a few years. Engine was free a couple of years ago but it has sat with the carburetor off since then with a rag stuffed in the bottom of the manifold. I was thinking I better squirt some witches brew into the cylinders before pulling it into the shop to install new carb and fuel tank. What do you experts mix up or is there a ready made product? Last time I tried to soak cylinders I used Marvel mystery oil, gas line anti freeze and some penetrating oil but sadly the old 400 cu in her did not break free so can’t say I have ever had a successful treatment.

I free up engines using plain and simple ATF. I fill the cylinders and also pour as much down the exhaust as I can till it leaks some place and let it sit a few days. I have done that to 30 plus engines and most freed right up

this subject everyone has there opinion and brew. lubing the cyl's on any engine sitting for a long time with exhaust covered as in years should be done, stuck or not. and the cyl's should be lubed when the tractor is first parked ,like about 5 squirts from an oil squirt can. roll engine over and good enough. if tractor has sat out side with open exhaust and rain got in your done. its tear down time. it takes very little condensation to stick the rings to cyl's. and most times they will come loose from lube. and is this engine stuck or free and is pipe covered?

The exhaust has be covered and an oily rag was stuffed into the carb port on the intake manifold so I am hoping that it is still free. I don’t want to roll it over until I put something in.

I never thought about freeing the valves so maybe I will pop the manifolds off to lubricate the upper parts as well. I have some old small cans of dextron that have been sitting on the shelf since 1990. This sounds like a good way of getting rid of them.

yes that is smart. just remove valve cover and squirt some oil on valve stems and rockers and your good to go. dont need to be removing manifold. also just drain that old oil out and let sit overnight with plug out. then fill with engine oil.

Good idea to turn it over a few revolutions to make sure the the whole valve train is free.

There is a product called Engine Fog that can coat the cylinder walls before turning it over...probably more of a preventive measure than something to free up a stuck engine.
