Warning, bonehead move ahead. I posted earlier about the placement of a C clip left over on my PTO repair after I split my tractor. According to the parts manual, it was supposed to go on the PTO pinion drive shaft. I, not so carefully, looked at the expanded view and thought it was the clip at the end of the pinion drive shaft closest to the clutch. Well that clip actually holds the pilot bearing in and I couldn't figure out how the clip could get by clutch. Since I never had my clutch off myself I couldn't really picture what it looked like behind the clutch at the fly wheel.
Well as it turned out, I had identified the clip at the wrong end of the tractor. If I looked at the pictures and clip measurements I would have realized that fact. It's the clip at the end of the PTO pinion drive shaft towards the back end of the tractor. When I was re-assembling the tractor, I couldn't see where a clip could possibly been installed. That's because I had installed a speedy sleeve on the shaft and had left the flange on the speedy sleeve that hid the location of the clip.
All's well that ends well. I have the clip installed and now have to bolt the clutch back up. I'll have to make an alignment tool for the clutch installation. The good thing is, it's a learning experience. By know I can probably take all the PTO parts and drive shafts out blind folded, but I won't. Thanks John and Kent for your input, although I was giving you the wrong part description.
