!850 gas vs 1750 gas fuel consumption

I have read that the 1850 gas engine is a real fuel hog and uses a lot of fuel, but I am curious how does the 1750 gas compare in fuel consumption?

The engines have different horse power ratings. One would expect the higher power engine could use more fuel per hour. Typically, the method to compare engines of different power ratings is to look the horse power you get for the fuel used.

From my M&W dyno HP & fuel consumption charts:

Oliver gas 1750 = 80.3 HP, 11.6 HP Hours/Gallon (Neb test # 961)
Oliver gas 1850 = 92.4 HP, 12.0 HP hours/Gallon (Neb test # 875)

From the above we see the 1850 is capable of supplying a greater number of HP Hours for each gallon of fuel used.

And I should've clarified the numbers I posted were the average rates.

Okay, that explains the difference:

The M&W chart lists 6.9 Gallons per hour for the 1750 and 7.7 Gallons per Hour for the 1850. These would be fuel rates for a maximum HP test condition.

Just for fun look us the test results for an IH 806 or 856 gas and a Deere 4020 gas little engine of the bigger later engine.

IH 806 gas: 93.3 HP, 7.4 GPH, 12.6 HP-Hours/Gallon, Neb Test # 859

IH 856 gas: No listing

JD 4020 gas: 88.1 HP, 8.4 GPH, 10.5 HP-Hours/Gallon, Neb Test # 850

I have an 1850G and those numbers are accurate when worked hard. Use it to pull a 5-16 plow and it will use 5-7 gallons per hour. Very reliable tractor however.
