Oliver / Cockshutt 1550 pros cons

I will be going to an auction where there is both a 1550 oliver and 1550 Cockshutt and both are diesels. Cosmetically they look rough with some rust and faded paint, but if they run good, then I would consider bidding on them if the price is low enough like under $2500.

Are the diesel engines in the 1550 a good and reliable engine with parts still available? Is there any inherent problems with these model tractors that would make them not desirable to get?

Also , was a Cockshutt identical mechanically in all ways to the Oliver and the parts the same?

Good tractor. They wouldn't have the power you were looking for in an 1850 though. $2500 would be a little high for one in rough shape. I'd sure miss mine if I didn't have it.

I have 3 a diesel and gas runners and a 1550 utility 'project'.Just used my diesel today on the round baler does a good job and handy all around tractor. For me I'm way more concerned about the mechanics than the looks.Seen two sell at auction in the last couple years one was a wide front row crop bought $4800,2nd was a NF row crop in better over all shape than the first one bought $2100,I bid $2000 just because it was cheap so prices are all over as usual on old tractors.

I gave $2400 for this one five years ago. Gas, starts and runs real good. Tires, not so much but I only use it for haying.
