I bought a White LQ 145 riding mower from a guy with the idea in mind that it was distantly related to White, Oliver, Hart-Parr, etc? Wrong again? Also, this isn't running and I'm curious about the reliability of the hydro-trans. ???? gm

Only relation is the name, just a regular ole mower built by MTD. Hydro longevity I can't say much, they did last but they are a throw away part. No drain plug, no fill plug, and no filter. So take it for what it is. You could change the fluid in them but had to remove trans/axle from mower and open up the housing. I don't remember what size of white I had but it was similar.

"Only relation is the name"

Got that right. The Deere dealer here sold them in the late 80s and early 90s.

Randy, my research turned up that "White Outdoor Equipment" was indeed part of "White Farm Equipment" even though they never actually produced their namesake.

"The White Outdoor Equipment company was formed when White Farm Equipment sold and licensed the rights to the White brand name for lawn and garden and outdoor power equipment to MTD Products. MTD purchased this in 1981 and formed the company at its headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. White never actually built their own lawn & garden tractors, but had previously purchased them from the Jacobsen Corporation.

For many years, the MTD name was not found on the White branded lawn or outdoor equipment, and they were exclusively marketed through White Farm Equipment dealers. Somewhere in the 1990s or early 2000s, the logo "by MTD" began to be included in advertising and on the products. Especially after the demise of the White farm equipment brand in 2001, White began to be seen in other stores and independent dealerships."

The local Deere dealer closed in 91. They sold those for a year or two before they closed. I don't know how they got the contract, but they did. Interesting things is,they lost the New Idea contract due to the White New Idea merger at about the same time and took on Gehl.
