550 trans rear end flush

I bought a pair of 550's, the nice looking one has a stuck motor. The other one had the hydraulic unit/rear end cover taken off when previous owners were trying to figure out why the rear end was locked up( brakes stuck). I got the brakes off and parts ordered, put the hydraulic unit back on. It had evidently been off for a while, because it is pretty dirty inside. I rinsed it out with diesel fuel, got quite a bit out of it. I'm thinking I need to put something light in there and run it a little bit and drain it out before putting good oil in it. I'm thinking of filling it with ATF or else used motor oil and drive it around a bit and then drain it out. What would you all recommend?? I'm gonna fill the cylinders on the other one with atf and let it set for a while. Chris

My Super 55 owners manual recommends flushing the trans with kerosene once a year. 5 gallons of kerosene would be cheaper than any oil. Manual does say not to load it, but operate in all ranges.

nope, diesel is useless for flushing. the solids just sit on the bottom. u gotta have some oil in there to give it viscosity to carry the solids out. i like to use clean used hyd. fluid for flushing.
