I have a 47 8n i got not running we
shaved head 30 thousandths potyed and all
kinds of fun stuff it runs great now. My
issue is only the top like inch of the
3pt control works this will fully raise
and lower it. It made my 1st attempt at
mowing with it hell and i wanna learn any
ways to adjust it. As my 1950 ferguson is
about to get a similar top end refresh
and is currently down

Easy stuff first. First year for 8Ns was 1948 (although some were manufactured in 47). A 1947 2N would act as you describe.

If you really do have a 1948 8N, made in 47, there should be a small lever on the right side under the seat, which selects between draft control and position control. Up is position control, horizontal is draft control. Your description of your lift action is similar to what would happen with draft control.

Im just going by the serial number decoder i found. most likely your right a 48 built in 47 then. i have tried with the switch in both positions with same result maybe that is bad and staying engaged?

Hi Maxum503, welcome to the forum. I also have a 1950 Ferguson (TO-20). If I understand your question correctly, you will see four bolts that hold the control assembly to the tractor. Try loosening those bolts and move the assembly four or aft a little and see if that helps. Let us know.

Would this be similar to the to20 where the spring on the top link of 3pt would need to be adjusted possibly like i saw bundy bear on YouTube doing with to or te20 you think i can try to find the link to this video i mentioned and link but no videos with a title i can comprehend to fix this on 8n

First need to figure out if it's an 8N or not. If it doesn't have a draft control lever it won't have any position control, it's either up or down.

This is not showing its movemwnt as in this range moves all the way up where pto rubs and down to mower front digs but fast view of my meaning as dont wanna dig

Model year and any alleged serial number are unimportant. Determine which model you have - 9N or 8N. ALL 9N and 2N's after 1940 were basically the same. The 9N & 2N had a 3-FWD SPD Transmission. They also only had DRAFT CONTROL. The electrical system used a 1-Wire GENERATOR and the Round Can Cutout. The Starter Motor used 1-Wire and had no RELAY (SOLENOID). The 8N had a 4-FWD SPD Transmission and POSITION CONTROL was added. 8N used a 3-Wire GEN and a Voltage Regulator. The starter motor had 3-Wires and a RELAY attached to the motor. Steering Box, wheels, and cooling system was also different. You need to get the Essential Manuals for your tractor; you can't work on these without knowing what you re doing. Don't replace any parts til you know what you are doing and if any need replacing. All major components were meant to be rebuilt over and over. ALL FORDS were designed with the 6-VOLT/POSITIVE GROUND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM - you better know that system well first. ALL N's from '39 thru '50 used the Front Mount Distributor, the 2nd most misunderstood feature on Ford Tractors. The front mount models all require the Ballast Resistor in the circuit as well. Do you know what that is? Timing and mounting must be set a certain way on the front mount unit. 8N's after 1950 used the Angle (SIDE) Mount Distributor. 30 thou is a full 1/32....an awful lot to mill off on the head. Fly cuts are usually all needed to clean up the head if at all. Did you do it or a machine shop? You need to get the Essential Manuals for your tractor B4 you do anything else and possibly damage something or yourself. The I&T FO-4 SERVICE MANUAL is a good place to start. Sounds like you don't know what you really have and you know little or nothing about DRAFT and POSITION CONTROL.

30 thousandths was what the machine shop had to take off to get it flat. I do understand the position and draft control but mentioned that is making no difference in my issue as other people have stated it sounded like it was in draft control mode and it is not though i have tried switching it. You do not need to be such a rude little puncture wound to someone asking for ideas troubleshooting and no i dont need the pile of stuff to read on the shitter when its all easily searchable but have found pdfs of many of those and cant find anything related tonwhat im needing. I just replaced said resistor actually as well.

maxm503, as you can see, some of us don't actually read the prior posts or the original one. They just start typing and posting photos.
In my reply yesterday I said IF i understand your question..... Evidently I didn't. Sorry if I wasn't any help.
