Draw Bar Problem

I have had a small utility trailer for quite a while and have decided to put a draw bar on one of my tractors and start using the trailer. I have a bunch of stuff to move to my big trash dumper and get rid of it. Trouble is that both my tractors have Pat's Quick Hitches on them. I don't know how I would put on a draw bar lock that keeps the hitch ball in the up position all the time.

Anyone use a draw bar with quick hitches? I don't want to have to remove those quick hitches just to use the trailer for a day or two then have to put them on again.

"3-point hitch receiver drawbar"

Probably one of the safer ways to do what you want...

Is this just a quick connect problem? I don't have them - and sure my bar rotates and ball goes down when not in use . . . but once connected to trailer, and limit chains to hold bar up, where is the problem? Am I missing something? (wouldn't be the 1st time  )

(quoted from post at 06:02:43 05/20/22) Much better to connect trailer to beneath axle drawbar rather than three point.

Yup.

For drawbar you should have the setup posted above in picture, or.....

Limiter chains won't keep the bar from lifting up. Should have the solid bars from toplink to drawbar, and the drawbar lock that bolts on to one of the lift bars and slips over the drawbar, that keeps the drawbar from spinning. Tractor Supply has the latter.

What he said. Using the drawbar on the lift with the anti rotate piece is all fun and games until it raises up on you. It does make it easy to hook up as you can back under and raise the ball up into the hitch. Much safer with the solid drawbar mounted under the axle.

You seem to have missed the whole point of my post. If I wanted to remove the quick hitches from my tractor, I could use a regular draw bar system. But I may use this utility trailer maybe once a year. I'm not going to remove those quick hitches for that. I switch to four different implements on that tractor at different times of the year so the quick hitches are real handy.

I've had that 8N for 20 or so years. Do you really think I don't know what a regular drawbar system for it looks like?

I've had my N for > 40 years......never had a "quick hitch". But have a bunch of the original Dearborn 3pt implements. They are not too much of a PITA to switch.

So, your advice to solve my problem is to take off my quick hitches? No thank you. You could have also suggested that I buy a new modern tractor. Neither one solves the problem I asked about. The real problem is that I don't have a welder or cutting torch as many of you guys do. If I did, I could certainly rig up something to hold that drawbar in position.

Hobo came closest to answering my question. I kind of knew I would have to rig up something myself and at least he gave me a picture of something he rigged up utilizing that hole in the quick hitch pin.

OK, gonna tackle this another way. I got to thinking about my 8N. It has the part of the swinging drawbar under the rear end. It even has the pin still in it. I just put a towing hook on it.

Anyway, I want to use the MF202 for the utility trailer. It's PIA taking the mower on and off the 8N. I looked at the swinging draw bar system here on this site. I just wanted to know if the actual draw bar part comes off with a pin like it would be on the 8N? Just so it wouldn't be in the way if I hooked up another implement. It kind of looks like removing those two hair pins and those cross pins and the whole thing would drop down off that plate hold it to the rear end.

Here is it at this link.

You wont like what I am going to say is get rid of those quick hitches and put them in the junk. I have had Ford tractors for 78 years now and never would one of those hitches have helped in any way. I used one where I worked and it made things almost impossible to hook up. You could not give me one of thost hitches. Different strokes for different folks but I think you are barking up the wrong tree, Goodby.

You won't like what I have to say either. Evidently you don't know how to use them. I have them on both my tractors and find them very easy to use.
