Hooky

New owner '49 8n. Has a top link on it, but it has a 1/2" bolt instead of a proper 3/4" pin. If I put a 3/4" pin in it, the link contacts the front of the mount and won't pivot properly. Does the top link need to be a specific one, or should I just grind off a little metal?
Sorry, can't post pics yet, not up to 6 posts yet.
TIA!

Good afternoon: Just browsing through, I noted your question. Top links can vary, some have the eyes at the ends made close but not quite right. You might try turning the eye piece 180 degrees (screw it in or out of link body) to see if it fits better. Also, try swapping ends, the eye on opposite end may fit better. Good luck, this should not be a difficult problem. Last resort, grind a little.

That is a very common problem with the aftermarket top links and we always have to grind the end of the link for proper clearance on the Ns.

I read the 75 tips and see i shouldn't be using the top hole anyway, and I think the other two may have a little more clearance. It currently has a solid (non-adjustable) link on it. Was planning on swapping it for a screw type one and didn't know if there was a better one to buy than what I can get locally at a farm and ranch store (Fleet Farm, Tractor Supply, etc)
