Hello,
How do I decipher the A56 axle housing and A62 transmission date codes, or are they date codes at all. Engine has been change but other parts of the tractor are consistent with the codes on the trumpets.
Thank's,

Casting date code ID Tags are defined as:

1st = Letter Code; A-L, with A = JAN; B =- FEB; C = MAR; etc.

2nd = One or two digit numeral for day of month, 1-31

3rd = One numeral digit for model year part was cast. I.E. - 7 = 1947; 8 = 1948; 2 = 1952.

Casting codes and serial numbers are two different animals. Serial numbers are hand stamped special. Casting code tags are placed on the sand molds when the part is cast. They needed some way to verify when the part was cast because cast iron requires 30 days or more to cure before it can be machined. Kind of like how you can't burn green wood -it needs to be seasoned.

rong post, no mention of serial numbers in mine.

That is what I thought but wasn't sure. Ford changed up there date coding for a time in the late 50's using letters for the day of the week and letters A and B for the last two months. If these tractor date codes are normal the 1946 axle housing code and the 1952 transmission didn't add up. Seems either would be way to easy to rebuild as apposed to swapping at a rebuilder or from another tractor.

Would a 2N axle housing be able to house position control?
