Carburetor ID?

Neighbor sold his 8N and gave me all of his leftover parts. In the box is a MS carb that he said came off of his 8N. It is stamped TSX 2418 but it's also stamped 4-54. Is that a date code? Is this a Ford replacement carb or did it come off of a later model tractor?

it is probably a TSX 241B, that was the latest mod for the carb.
I believe that is supposed to be the "good" one

That's the Marvel-Schebler TSX-241-B Carburetor, used on mid-8N's when they made improvements to the TSX-241. By the 8N, M/S carbs had a brass ID tag riveted to the 'ping-pong paddle' boss on the RH side of bottom half case. It was stamped with the M/S TSX Model number and a date code of when the unit was manufactured at the M/S Borg-Warner facility. Not an aftermarket Cheena made junker sold today, it is the real McCoy. Every Ford OEM component was designed to be rebuilt over and over and is My first choice over anything sold today. They will work very well when properly maintained. The issues many fellers encounter when they do a rebuild is they think they need to ream or drill out the passages and when those small diameter passes get boogered out/wallowed out, that's when the unit starts to have problems. I use my old guitar strings to chase the passages when cleaning my carbs. Avoid using drills, reamers, or punches when doing a cleaning job. If you are looking to part with your old carb, email me as I rebuild these in my sleep.

I'll have o take a closer look, I guess it is a B instead of an 8.
As far as the date code is it a 54?
When time allows I plan of going through it and rebuilding it. I don't plan on parting with either carb as long as I own my 8N. I've got a good collection of guitar strings for carb cleaning.
Any kit better than another for parts?

Yes, it is a 1954 date code ID tag, and just means it was the date M/S manufactured the carburetor unit, NOT the date the tractor was installed. 8N's only made from July, 1947 til September, 1952 ya know? I am rebuilding two TSX-241-B's now. I'll post how bad they can get later when I get before and after pix. If you need any help, holler -my email is open.
