Update on 9N with stuck motor

I've posted about this tractor in the past, finally wheeled it into my shop and with a wide-ranging array of techniques got the head off. Not looking too encouraging inside. This is a tractor I bought with a stuck motor. I'll let it soak, see if I can get any movement. It's a project tractor, something to waste some time with and have fun seeing if I can breathe new life into it.

(quoted from post at 09:57:26 02/20/19) The pitting looks very bad in spots. Any sign of damage from freezing?

I don't think it froze. When I brought the tractor home it was full of antifreeze with no external leaks apparent. Doubt I'll put any money into this tractor but I'd like to see if I can get it unstuck (famous last words).

50/50 mix of acetone and ATF, pour it on everything that looks like rust. Best penetrating oil I've every ran accross. Do that for a couple days and see if it breaks loose.

That block is sad. I understand the challenge - good luck!

Thanks for the tip! I'll try that the next time.

Thanks, right now it's soaking in fresh ATF since I had a bottle on hand. I'll check back with any progress, not holding my breath :)

I have one that was that way, after soaking pistons for months I drove them out with big hammer and block of wood. I did the full monty and completely overhauled it. 7 years or so ago and running strong today.

Stupid me with old, tired eyes. I thought that shadow was a huge crack in the block....

Hard to tell just looking at a photo. I left some of the gasket on because that's how it all was when I finally got the head off.

R Geiger, glad to hear yours came to life again, I'm sure you put some hours into it. While it's getting a good soaking, I may open up top cover of transmission to see if I can identify anything amiss. Don't really know what I'm looking at, but should be obvious if something's broken in there. Clutch disengages and tractor rolls ok.
