Last couple of weeks it was warm enough to work on the 8N basket case. This has been a work in progress for me now for almost 6 years (I've gone through 4 other tractors over this time, so I have plenty of entertainment). Well, last Sunday at dinner time my son (just turned 4 on Friday) and I came in from the shop and I was telling my wife about the progress we had made that morning. And then I described the choke rod and how it was so bent up from the PO that used baling wire was straighter. I told her that I'll have to get on YT and order the part. My son thinks about this for a moment, and then very seriously says "Papa, you really should try fixing it." I'm not sure which weightier...my natural Midwestern thriftyness or being schooled by my four year son, but I thought I ought to give it shot. So, after dinner, we went out and I took the rod over to the vise. After about 45 minutes, I had the rod good and straight. Another 10 minutes and I had it installed with the correct bends. So, the moral of the lesson is that we should all listen to our four year olds. They carry their own wisdom. Even if it's blind faith that their papas can fix everything. :)

Hi Colin,

Your young man is progressing nicely, and in a few years will probably be right there with Brian. You have good reason to be a proud father!

Have a good Christmas!

A Merry Christmas to you and your family, Paul! I had hoped to stop by this fall, but never quite worked out. I ended up renting a neighboring farm and moving the winter sheep flock over there. Preparing the barn and adjacent pasture took every spare moment. I finished up the 2nd weekend of deer season. I'll find a day after the New Year to make it your way.
