Galvanic Corrosion questioin

Hypothetically, what would happen if a standard steel nut is tightened down onto a stainless steel bolt for, say, 20 years? I am second-guessing a recent project of mine. Thanks.

Not much unless there is:

a) a high presence of an electrolyte at the connection
b) the nut is galvanized.

You might also want to consider what materials are being gripped by the fastener ;-)

My dentist damn near broke his face in surprise when I came in and complained of a galvonic reaction betwixt my partial and a filling. He asked 'how do you know about galvonic reations?' I said 'Dude - I own a boat'. It was okay with him. He learned a few things about horse care from me. (My last horse left here with my last daughter - a long time ago.)

 ncorrigible. i have that issue with a metal toothpick and a gold crown. in my case, it wasn't the dentist, but one of the hygienists. i don't own a boat, but i took a lot of chemistry in school :)
