I have abused my 9n. I inherited my fathers 1950 TO20 and left my 40 9n to sit for four years. Of course she wont start. Replaced points condenser cap rotor coil plugs ( had no spark to start with). Also replaced the fuel tank sediment valve. I rebuilt the carb with new throttle and choke shafts. Drained the fuel tanks and added new fuel two times. Spark is there but seams weak. Jumped across the ign switch and still seems weak. It jumps 3/8s of an inch on spark tester. iT TRYS TO HIT A BIT ON EITHER Battery is not the best. Bought a New Blem and it is junk. Have charger on it. Pulled plugs and added atf to cylinders and let soak for several hours. Was converted to 12 volt 30 years ago. I did not have a helper today but last time it seamed to have better spark when I wiggled the wires at resister. Not loose but connectors kinda rusty. I think i need to change the resister block. It has compression. Not looking for help from people who dont have a clue. Not trying to be mean but see it to often, Mainly I want to know if any one knows where I can find a factory type resister . I dont want to install a car part. Looking to pick it up tomorrow on the far south side of Chicago. Looked on Farm and fleets web page and also tractor supply page. With no luck. Napa has a listing on the web but dont tell be if any stores have it and they are closed. Any suggestions?

i'd try an actual tractor dealer, preferably a CNH dealer if there's one around u. but u may end up having to wait for one from online.

Ford-Ferguson,You could bypass the OEM resister with a jumper wire with 2 alligator clips on it.To get it started to load it up,it will be ok to run it for 5-10 minutes but not much longer as it may melt your coil.Or run a wire from the ignition side battery directly to the coil top nut to get it running, also replace the plugs AL 437s for a sure start. Then you can order or pick up a factory type resister when you can.

"Any suggestions?"

If your OEM resistor is in place and working but with rusty
connections, why not just take them apart and clean them?
Sure, we know where to buy them, but why buy if not needed?

While it may be your rusty resistor, prove it.

Use a jumper wire from battery hot to coil top. ( hotwire, bypass, etc )

If it starts and runs with excellent spark, you know you need to clean up ignition wiring, connections, etc.

Ordered one from NAPA. Balkamp. Dont recommend. The holes for the mounting screws are too small in the washers. If you drill out the washer so bolt fits through then the bolts are too short. After prying out the washers and mounting it the studs are bigger and had to drill out the wire eyelets. Why cant any company just make the parts like the original. New battery tomorrow and see if it starts.

ame reason people can't spell?

Or you could just get a 12 volt coil that has an internal resistor and remove the external resistor and eliminate the connections at the two terminals where you can have problems.

The separate resistor is is cheaper but the coil is cleaner.

Sorry, no, that's incorrect.

He has a front coil. He must use the OEM ballast resistor. (see tip # 30)

If he uses a 12 volt coil, he will not need any additional resistors.

And these coils do not have internal resistors. The internal resistance of the coil is determined by the wire gauge & number of turns.
