Just bought a MM for use around the farm, previously had a 2N Ford.
- I have a low producing cylinder, #2 to be exact. low compression (35psi), plug is fouled, the other cylinders are @ 120 psi range(+ or - 5psi.) tested with all plugs removed. added oil to the cylinder and increased to 40psi.
brought cyl 2 at TDC and connected air to cylinder. bubbling at the intake.

Are there issues with burned valves on these or might it just be carbon hanging the valve? How are the valves looking when any of you have pulled valves? For the sake of being thorough I think I'll try the old spraying water in the intake trick after I get it up to operating temperature tomorrow.
I'm gonna remain hopeful but expecting I'll be pulling a head soon.

The plot thickens, since I still had it in the shop I pulled the valve cover when I went out for a smoke, just curiosity. Coolant sludge on the underside of valve cover. I guess I will be tearing it down after all. Now to locate gasket set and send heads to the machine shop.

If pulling heads you may as well do rings and bottom end. With screwdriver go into timing hole and check thrust on crankshaft by
moving flywheel back and forth.

I cant afford down time just yet. I don't do a ton with a tractor, but when I do, I need it bad.
I cleaned out the valve cover, and reset the valves. Found the intake valve on #2 a bit tight, looks like someone did a bad job with adjustment. wonder how long it was like that. gained a little compression. Also installed a new plug. ran better today.

I will try to get some gaskets coming soon. I'll probably determine if it needs rings when I get to open it up. Do they wear ridges pretty fast?

If you grind the valves put rings in it or it will smoke. If you have the heads milled make sure they do them together with the adapter plate on the top of them.
