5 Star PTO input shaft removal question

I have my MM 5 star tore apart to replace the rear PTO seal, but I am having trouble getting the input shaft out. Pump has been removed, clutch set screw has been removed, clutch and transfer gear are loose on shaft, yoke is off. When I go to hammer the shaft towards the rear, it moves about 3/4", then seizes up, even with a sledge hammer?
Anyone have an idea what to try next?

Take out the key way that the clutch center hub is on. The key bottoms out on the outer clutch drum. You probably damaged the thrust washer from bottoming out against it. You have to slide the center hub forward then can grab the key with a needle nose. If you are doing all this to do the PTO output seal, you could have just pulled it out the back around the shaft with a screw and not taken anything apart.

Most people just drill a hole in the shield that covers the seal and pull it out with a sheet metal screw. You can do the same to get the seal out.

The clutch key is out. I need to have the front splines on the input shaft repaired also. they are worn pretty bad.

If you had seen the cobbled up mess that someone had done with a welder on the pto shaft, you would agree that the shaft needed removed. No way to pull the old seal off or put a new one one with this cob job.

Don't ya just love when the manual says "bump the shaft out". I had a heck of a time with my JS 3 too. Vice grip, pry bars and hammer and punch. I suspect the trouble is the splines on the shaft into the
adapter attached to the flywheel. Wish I had a secret cure for you, just sharing misery.

Slidehammer on the back will usually work, but always easiest to split so you can give the front of the shaft a few good hits.

(quoted from post at 03:48:43 12/04/19) Ive used a slide hammer on an M602. Worked well.

Thanks everyone. I found where someone had welded a little spot on the shaft and I was able to chip it off and get the shaft out. Now I just need to find replacement shafts.

(quoted from post at 03:17:44 12/06/19) Where are you located? I may have an input shaft and output shaft. In Jordan, MN.

North Central Iowa. I have located them in WI, but you are a lot closer. but how much are you asking for them?
